Alien landscape underneath Japan (via boingboing). I developed a fascination with the subterranean level of human architecture and existence while reading Neil Gaiman's Neverwhere. I live near Berlin now. Should go check out the local underground. Lots of eerie history there.

Condoleezza Rice - triple token (female, black, hispanic name). Can't speak for blacks and hispanics but as a woman she's in the same league as Margaret Thatcher which means she doesn't count.

My nice little geeky hosting provider is going mainstream. From their November News Update:

"How do I set up my email program to send or receive messages?" is a question our customers have been asking quite a lot recently. Fortunately there is an excellent walkthrough at http://support.gradwell.net/article.php?152 that explains, in glorious detail, how to configure Outlook Express.

quote of the month

People are disappointed with the future they're living in. Since 2001, the refrain has gone up, louder year by year: "This is the future. Where's my flying car? Where's my fucking jet pack?" Pre-millennium, we were living in an unprecedented density of imagined futures, and we assumed it was all waiting for us around the corner. And here we are, around the corner, and none of it is standing here.
